Itinerary:
1st day.- Departure from Lima to Huaraz (by bus).
We will travel by bus from Lima to Huaraz, the capital of the district of Ancash (3100m). The transport provided by the company “Cruz del Sur” includes a “bus cama”, an overnight trip with reclined seats.
Departure time from Lima is at 09:30am and we will arrive in Huaraz at 5:30pm. Pick up at the bus terminal and transfer to the hotel in Huaraz is included.
The staff of "Enrique Expedition Tours" and the Mountain Guide will be informed about TREKKING CLIMBING CORDILLERA HUAYHUASH 15 DAYS your arrival and will be waiting for you.
2nd day.- Acclimation trek to Lake Churup (4450m).
We will leave the city of Huaraz by private bus to Pitec (3850m). First we will pass the colorful villages of Llupa (3650m) outside of Huaraz, where we will have a panoramic view of the southern part of the Cordillera Blanca. Arriving in Pitec we start the hike to the Lake Churup at 4450m. First we enter the valley of Churup, after some hours of walking we will reach the Lake Churup, where we will stay for one hour before we return to our hotel in Huaraz.
(Elevation change: +650m; Duration: 4-5 hours).
The organization of personal material and logistical information for the TREKKING CLIMBING CORDILLERA HUAYHUASH, we will do after the trekking in the evening.
3rd day.- Huaraz – Chiquian – Quero (3250m) – Mahuay (3750m).
Trekking of 3 to 4 hours. Departure is from Huaraz with the direction to Chiquian, also known as the place “Mirror of Heaven”, where you can see the Cordillera Huayhuash with its majestic Mount Yerupajá – With its altitude of 6634 meters it is the second highest mountain of Peru.
From Chiquian we will drive towards the village center of Quero (3250m), a picturesque village steeped in tradition and cultural expression. Here in this place we will be expected by our muleteer and donkeys, who will carry our personal and camping equipment. Then we will start the walk towards the village of Mahuay (3750m), a small village in the heart of the Andes that maintains the architectural tradition and their ancestral legacies – with its narrow streets, rooftops unique in its style, and its people.
On the way we will come in contact with nature and culture, as walk through a part of INKA NANI (Inca road). It is surrounded by lots of afforestation and wildlife, that combine the experience and ancestral nurturing of the Andean man – always keeping the colorful glory, that makes a perfect combination with nature - Mahuay Camp.

4th day.- Mahuay (3750m) – Pariashpampa (4500m).
Trekking of 5 to 6 hours. After a good breakfast we will start trekking towards our next Camp Parishpampa (4500 m). On the way we will hike through the whole ravine of Pariash, close to the river of the same name. The place is characterized by the peculiar animal called “viscacha” (Indian guinea pig), deers and foxes and incomparable bushes as quenuales. After 5 hours we will reach the camp, located close to the pass of the next day.
5th day.- Pariashpampa (4500m) – Pass of Pasopashimin (4800m) – Matacancha (4200m).
Trekking of 5 to 6 hours. This day we will leave the campside with our destination towards pass of Pasopashimin (“paso del gato” (“pass of the cat”) at 4800m).
Naturally the origin of the name of this first pass belongs to its very narrow and inaccessible passing to people, who are going without a guide, watching it from the photographic point;
We will have a beautiful view of the Cordillera Huayhuash and of the whole ascent route to Yerupaja, we will pass by the way to the lake Sacracocha, which is surrounded by many water depths, caused by stored water during the rainy season. At the end of this pass we will hike down til camp Matacancha (4200m).
6th day.- Matacancha (4200m) – Lake Mitococha (4100m).
Trekking of 5 to 6 hours. We will pass the first pass of Cacananpunta (4700m). We will observe some mountains like Ninashanca, Rondoy, the lakes of Pucacocha, Yanacocha Chico and Grande (small and big). Later by descending towards camp Mitococha we will get to see the mountains Rondoy and Hirishanca.
7th day.- Lake Mitococha (4100m) – Lake Carhuacocha (4138m).
Trekking of 5 to 6 hours. We will pass the second pass of Punta Carhuac (4650m) and descend through the ravine to our camp Carhuacocha. We will enjoy a panoramic view of the mountains Jirishanca, Yerupaja, Toro, etc.
8th day.- Lake Carhuacocha (4138m) – Pass of Siula – Huayhuash (4100m).
Trekking of 5 to 6 hours. We will pass the third pass of Carnicero (4600m) and descend in between the lakes of Atocshaico, Carnicero. We will see the mountains Siula, Khural, Carnicero and Trapecio.
9th day.- Huayhuash (4100m) - Lake Viconga (4407m).
Trekking of 5 to 6 hours. We will pass the fourth pass of Portachuelo (4750m) and see the mountains Puscanturpa, Cuyoc, Millpo and a part of the Cordillera Raura. After we will arrive at our campsite in Viconga (4300m) you will have the chance to take a bath in the hot springs of Atuscancha (4000m).
10th day.- Lake Viconga (4407m) – Pampa Elefante (3900m).
Trekking of 4 to 5 hours. We will pass the fifth pass of Cuyoc (5000m), the highest of the entire circuit. Descent to the camp - Pampa Elephant (3900).
11th day.- Pampa Elefante (3900m) - Lookout San Antonio – Huayllapa.
Trekking of 6 to 7 hours. We will pass the fifth pass of Cuyoc (5000m), the highest of the entire circuit. Descent to the camp - Pampa Elephant (3900m).
We will leave the camp to climb up to the lookout San Antonio, where we have a beautiful view of the Cordillera Huayhuash. Later we will descend along the valley Guanacpatay to the village of Huayllapa, where we will set up our camp.
12th day.- Huayllapa (3600m) – Jashapampa (4400m).
Trekking of 6 to 7 hours. We will leave Huayllapa and head towards Jashapampa (base camp of Diablo Mudo). We will pass the sixth pass of Punta Tapush (4900m) with a view of Mount Diablo Mudo, etc.
13th day.- Jashapampa (4400m) – Summit of Mount Diablo Mudo (5350m) – Lake Jahuacocha (4100m).
Trekking and ascent of 9 to 10 hours. We will leave the base camp at 4.30am. Ascent to Diablo Mudo (5350m). Descent to Lake Jahuacocha (4100). We will have a panoramic view of the Cordillera Huayhuas, including Yerupaja, the Hirishanca, Butcher, Siula, Trapeze etc. Part of the group, who can’t make the ascent of Diablo Mudo pass the seventh pass of Yaucha (4800m). From there both groups descend the ravine of Haucrish, where we will observe part of Glacier Hirishanca and Yerupaja. Arrival at our campsite at Lake Jahuacocha.

14th day.- Lake Jahuacocha (4066m) – Llamac (3250m).
Trekking of 5 to 6 hours. We will pass the last pass of Pampa de Llamac (4300m). For the last time we have the opportunity to see the mountains of the Cordillera Huayhuash. Arrival at Llamac, where we will be expected by the bus company "Enrique Expedition Tours" to take us back to Chiquian and Huaraz (same way like the travel from Huaraz).
15th day.- Departure from Huaraz to Lima (Bus).
Transportation from the hotel to the bus terminal "Cruz del Sur" and depature from Huaraz.
The departure time will be determined by your schedule, in the morning or night.
Morning departure: 11:00 am.
Night departure: 10:30 pm.
